CAKES

Our Signature Cake flavors can be ordered with just two days notice.

Some of our Specialized Designs can be ordered with just a few days notice but we reccomend placing your order a week in advance to guarantee the broadest selection.

For Wedding Cakes and other large events, please fill our our inquiry form at least three months prior to your event. We'll be in touch with next steps!

Bittersweet’s cakes are made with four layers of cake and three layers of filling and are 4.5" - 5" tall.

Our Tall 6" is six layers of cake and is 7" - 8" tall.

If between servings we reccomend sizing down.

We offer at least sixteen Signature Cake Flavors along with many options for gluten-free, adding fresh fruit.

At this time, we are evolving our cake program and are no longer creating custom cakes.

But, we have an amazing selection of new cake designs, created by our Lead Cake Artist Kerrie Breuer, that can personalized to fit your theme and vision.

We finish all of our cakes in Italian meringue buttercream. Made with whipped egg whites tempered with sugar syrup, butter, salt and real vanilla, this buttercream is light, creamy and not too sweet – very different from the sugary American buttercream you might be used to.

Because we use real butter, our buttercream hardens when cold. To ensure the best flavor and texture of the buttercream, your cake must be served at room temperature so be sure to remove cake from the refrigerator and the box 2-4hours prior to serving.

While we offer cakes and pastries that do not contain common allergens like nuts or gluten, we are not an allergen-free bakery and cannot guarantee there will be no cross-contamination.

We are currently unable to offer vegan, egg-free or dairy-free cakes.

To ensure the best flavor and texture, your cake must be served at room temperature.

Cake size and ambient temperature can affect required time. So be sure to remove cake from the refrigerator and the box 2-4 hours prior to serving. Allow more time for a larger cake and during the colder months.

Cakes can stay out of refrigeration safely for up to six hours. Refrigerate any leftovers.

PICKUP & Delivery

Once you've added your desired product to your cart, you can select pickup or delivery!

Pickup is available from Wednesday - Sunday, 8am - 3pm. We are currently unable to take orders for Tuesday.

Pickup can be scheduled with just two day's advance notice.

We offer professional delivery in the City of Chicago that can be scheduled through our website.

Once you've added your desired product to your cart, you can check your zip code to see if we deliver to you and schedule a morning or afternoon delivery!

Orders can be picked up anytime between your scheduled pickup time and when we close at 4pm.

We'll give you a call to remind you if we don't hear from you by 3pm.

Sure! Just provide them with the name the order was placed under as well as an order number if possible!

Placing an order

Our entire pastry, dessert and cake menu is available for pre-order online with just two days notice. If you don't see it on our website, it is most likely not currently available.

If you're looking to see what's availalbe in the shop today, you can visit our same-day to go order site BittersweetTakeaway.com to see everything that is in stock today and place an order for pickup same day.

Same-day orders open at 8am and close at 3:00 pm.

If you're calling and wish to speak to an associate, please leave a detailed message and we will return your call as soon as possible.

Our menu is continually evolving to provide the freshest, highest quality cakes and pastries.

If you don't see something on the online menu or in the shop it means that it wasn't up to our standard of quality, it didn't sell well enough or it cost us more to make than we could offer it for.

While we understand that some of your favorites might not be available, our goal is to stay in business and we've had to make some hard decisions to ensure the survival and growth of Bittersweert.

Changes, Cancellations, and Refunds

If you need to make a change to an exisiting order, please email us at info@bittersweetpastry.com

We cannot guarantee we will be able to accomodate change requests after the order is placed. All change requests must be submitted via email at least 72 hours in advance.

No changes are possible within 72 hours of the delivery or pickup date.  

Change requests will be reviewed and responded to during admin hours which are currently Tuesday – Sunday, 8am – 2pm. Requests submitted after admin hours will not be reviewed until the following business day. 

Cancellation requests received more than 72 hours in advance of the delivery or pickup date may be accommodated.

Orders cannot be cancelled within 72 days of the delivery or pick up date.

Requests for cancellation must be received via email. We check email during admin hours which are currently Tuesday – Sunday, 8am – 2pm.

Upon pickup, we present the cake for inspection of the color, design and writing. If you have someone else pick up your cake it is their responsibility to review the cake for approval. 

We do all that we can to make sure that your order is decorated to the specification on your order. Upon pick-up of your cake, adjustments can be made for an additional charge if it was not stated on your original order. If for some reason something is not decorated correctly as stated on your order, we will make necessary changes right away. 

Once the cake has been accepted and removed from the premises, refund requests for color, design or writing will not be accepted. 

Full refunds requested due to flavor or texture after the cake has been accepted and picked up will not be honored. You may qualify for a percentage of a store credit if the product is brought back and the quality of the cake flavor or texture is determined to not meet our standards. Cakes must be brought back to us within a timely manner, preferably with 24 hours of pick up - please email us promptly to let us know of the issue. Please understand that we cannot issue refunds for cakes that have already been completely eaten. Store credit percents are based on how quickly the cake is returned, how much has been consumed, and what we determine the quality to be. 

Store credits of any kind will not be issued to customers who do not contact us within 48 hours.
